The Protestent work ethic refers to religious importance being attached to one's labour. Virtues such as efficiency, productivity, frugality, and being industrious are seen as good and "being lazy" is undesirable. As its name suggests, the Protestant work ethic was initially developed by Protestant Christian religions, especially Calvinists and Puritans, but it has since become more widely adopted by secular people and by other religious groups.
